Entering the workforce marks a significant milestone for young people, involving their first salaries, personal projects, and new responsibilities. In Madagascar, financial management has become a crucial issue for this generation as they seek to build their future while navigating economic constraints. Financial autonomy is thus a necessary learning process to realize their ambitions.
This topic was addressed during an evening event organized by BMOI on Friday, dedicated to young professionals and their financial future. The event notably featured the presentation of the ‘Henika’ program, aimed at young people aged 21 to 30.
This age group represents a transitional period. First jobs, starting a business, purchasing a vehicle, or establishing a household are all projects that require resources and rigorous management. However, access to banking services and understanding financing mechanisms do not always align with the ambitions of young people.
‘Ambition alone is not enough. It must be given structure, resources, and discipline,’ emphasized Tokiniriana Rasolofo, Director of Retail Banking at BMOI, during his speech. This approach highlights the importance of financial literacy in achieving personal and professional goals.
The use of credit, in particular, requires careful consideration of repayment capacity and long-term commitments. A poor assessment of expenses or deadlines can weaken an already limited financial situation. Conversely, better budget control allows for project preparation and handling unforeseen circumstances.
Beyond financial products, the challenge lies in the ability of young people to understand the tools at their disposal and make informed decisions. Financial education emerges as a lever to strengthen their autonomy, foster entrepreneurship, and encourage responsible resource management.
