SLALOM – SHAKEDOWN LAST RACE – New track layout impresses drivers

Thirty-five drivers have registered for the 23rd edition of the XXL Last Race slalom, organized by the Auto et Cross Car de Tana (ACCT) on November 7 and 8 in Ampilanonana Ambodifasina, on the highway leading to Ambohimanga Rova. The event serves as the fifth and final round of the Madagascar Slalom and Dirt Hill Climb Championship.

A full-scale test session, or shakedown, was held on the circuit on Saturday. “I really like this new track; it is technical and fast. You have to find the right balance. We have taken our marks and we will see the times next weekend. As usual, the goal is to finish in the top 3,” said Eric Begue, driving a Peugeot Kit Car, who is currently third in the championship.

The competition will be held in a pursuit format, with two starting points, A and B, on a 1.5 km loop circuit. The highly technical layout includes a donut, an ascent, and a descent.

“A muddy section was removed at the request of the drivers. We therefore slightly modified the track. After two days of rain, we spread gravel and sand on certain sections. If it rains on Wednesday, as predicted by the meteorological services, we will have time to restore the track on Thursday and Friday,” assured Michael Nambinintsoa, Secretary General of the ACCT.

Four rounds are scheduled over the weekend, two on Saturday and two on Sunday. All registered participants took part in the tests, with the exception of the Rakotojohary father and son. Juan, who has already secured the national title since the fourth round, was competing in the Africa Esports Championship in Botswana on Saturday.
