“Even with limited resources, I want to help him,” says artist Rolf. Faced with the deteriorating health of Bekoto, a legendary member of the group Mahaleo, artists have mobilized to raise funds for his medical care.
The first event took place on Sunday, November 1st, at Ivokolo Analakely, featuring performances by various artists including Lemanana, Nanah Gona, and others. The initiative aims to cover the costs of medical examinations and a potential medical evacuation abroad.
Rolf, who initiated the movement, expressed his solidarity with his colleague. Further support events are scheduled, including a concert this Wednesday at the No Comment Bar in Isoraka. Christian Rabekoto, Director General of the National Office of Arts and Culture (OFNAC), praised this act of unity and “fihavanana” (Malagasy solidarity).
Bekoto’s health has been a concern since he was assaulted in Antsirabe in 2023. Despite his fragile condition, he has been participating in the European tour “Revy Mahaleo – Fihavanana tsy ravan’ny taona.” His family and the Ministry of Communication and Culture are working together to ensure the necessary medical care is provided.
