New site, new rules. Authorities are taking firm measures to prevent the chaos seen elsewhere from reaching the new Amoronakona bus station once all taxi-brousses serving the southern zone are relocated there. Following a meeting between the Minister of Transport and Meteorology and the mayors of the three communes surrounding Amoronakona, it was decided that street vendors and touts will not be allowed in the vicinity of the new station. The installation of wooden structures, bars, and brothels will also be prohibited.
A meeting dedicated to organizing the reception of transporters and cooperatives transferred from Fasan’ny Karàna was held on Tuesday. It was led by the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Herizo Ramanambola Andrianavalona, and attended by the mayors of Ambohimangakely, Alasora, and Ambohimanambola. It was decided that these officials will collaborate closely to ensure the control and proper management of the bus station. These efforts will be supported by the Prefecture, the Urban Commune of Antananarivo, the National Gendarmerie, and the National Police. The Directorate General of Land Transport and the Land Transport Agency (ATT) will participate in the monitoring and technical implementation of the measures.
The minister also addressed concerns regarding vendors living around the old Fasan’ny Karàna station, clarifying that the measures do not target them. “They can continue their activities on-site, subject to an agreement with the landowner,” he stated. However, all passenger transport vehicles operating at the old site must relocate to Amoronakona.
For the ministry, there is no turning back. The transfer of arrivals and departures for all taxi-brousses serving the RN7 national road that do not have a “private” station is expected to take place at the Amoronakona station starting this Wednesday. This reorganization is part of the authorities’ commitment to improving the transport sector in Madagascar.
