The Ankoay women’s team had a difficult start at the FIBA 3×3 U23 Women’s World Cup in Wuhan, China. The Malagasy selection lost their first two matches against Latvia and Uganda this Tuesday.
In their first encounter against Latvia, the Malagasy team lost by forfeit. The national team failed to arrive at the match on time due to logistical issues, as the delegation faced difficulties in organizing and planning their travel to Wuhan.
The Malagasy players managed to regroup shortly after to play their second match of the day. Facing Uganda, Mianjasoa Rakotonirina, Justine Etienne Rahariarivony, Elinah Rafarisoa, and Taratriniaina Murielle Erica Ramahatra suffered a logical 7-14 defeat. These two losses complicate the remainder of the competition for the Ankoay. Madagascar has two group stage matches remaining, and the Great Island cannot afford any more mistakes against Tonga and Spain this Thursday.
