Nantes-based expatriate Nicolas de Gonzague Randriamiandrisoa, better known as Nicolas Ragonz, is the sole Malagasy representative at the World Poomsae Championships. The global summit is taking place from September 16 to 20 in the city of Chuncheon, South Korea. The head technical official of the Basse-Goulaine club, who recently earned his 7th dan rank at the end of June, is competing in the U60 Masters category.
“This will be my sixth participation in the World Poomsae Championships. It is an immense pleasure to participate and a great pride to represent my country, Madagascar,” says Nicolas Ragonz.
In his career, Ragonz was the African Poomsae Champion in 2002, vice-champion in 2012, French Champion in 2013, and a bronze medalist at the French Veteran Kyorugi Championship (2003, 2004, 2006). He is also an international judge and referee in Kyorugi. He has officiated at two World Championships, in South Korea in 2022 and Hong Kong in 2024, the European Championship in 2019 in Turkey, the 2023 African Games, as well as several international Opens, including in the United States and Canada.
