COMBAT SPORTS – Two bronze medals and four world qualifications for Madagascar at the African Championships in Algiers

An encouraging performance for Madagascar. The Malagasy karate delegation secured two bronze medals and obtained four qualifications for the individual World Championships at the conclusion of the 2026 African Karate Championships, held in Algiers, Algeria, from September 5 to 13.

Among the athletes, Ornella Andriatsivoh distinguished herself in kumite in the U21 over 68 kg category, winning a bronze medal. Ayrton Rakotomamonjy, competing in junior kata, also took home the bronze. Both medalists have thus qualified for the individual World Championships.

In kata, Mathieu Randrianarivony (cadet boys) and Tiary Rakotomamonjy (cadet girls) finished in fifth place. Both were defeated in the bronze medal final. Despite these results, they also secured their qualification for the World Championships, which will be held in Poland from October 14 to 18, 2026.

The Malagasy participation was also marked by the success of two officials. Referee Thierry Andrianasolo obtained his continental judge qualification, while Sensei Rindra Ramanitrandrasana earned his continental coach certification.

These results strengthen Malagasy expertise in management and refereeing while contributing to the influence of national karate-do on the continental and international stages. They are part of the Malagasy Karate-Do Federation’s strategy to train qualified personnel and continue the development of the discipline in Madagascar.
