Eleven artists and designers, eleven ways of working with materials. For its second edition, Malagasy Design Gaze (MDG) brings together creators from September 19 to October 2 at the Soarano Station, exploring textiles, earth, stone, metal, wood, and other materials rooted in Malagasy heritage. Through their works, the event, themed “Re Dessin, Re Dessein” (Re-drawing, Re-designing), seeks to highlight the synergy between raw materials and traditional craftsmanship.
The event, curated by Ihoby Rabarijohn, explores the intersection of material, gesture, and creation. The eleven selected artists bring diverse practices: Andrée Mathilde Ethève focuses on natural fibers; Emma GL explores sculpture through assembly and hybridization; Fanjar works with metal and recycling; Stéphanie Granit’Ix highlights Madagascar’s mineral wealth; and Prisca Razafindrakoto focuses on metalwork.
Ceramicist Vero Rasendratsirofo and visual artist Miangaly Elia bring emotional depth to earth and dioramas, while Iandry Randriamandroso bridges the gap between crafts and contemporary art. Georges Floret, Philippe Manet, and Yassine Ben Abdallah further enrich the exhibition with their work on stone, crystal, and cultural heritage.
The main exhibition will be held at the Orange Digital Center Hall at Soarano Station. Additional works will be displayed at the Librairie Il était une fois in Ankorondrano, the Flow Gallery, and the BRED branch in Antaninarenina, offering the public a chance to discover and acquire these unique creations.
