Madagascar’s medical sector has welcomed new associate professors in human medicine and odontostomatology. Out of 50 candidates who participated in the national aggregation competition held from September 9 to 11, 35 successfully earned the title. This new cohort will strengthen the country’s hospital-university workforce, particularly in medical education and research.
The aggregation is a major milestone in a physician’s hospital-university career, enabling them to take on university teaching roles and contribute to health research. These new professors are doctors who have completed specialized training and gained extensive experience in clinical care, teaching, and research.
Reaching this qualification level typically takes nearly twenty years after obtaining a medical degree, according to information shared during this fifth edition of the national competition. Held every four years, the competition brought together about fifty candidates from medical faculties across six Malagasy universities.
The 35 winners represent various medical and odontostomatological specialties. Notably, cardiology now has two new associate professors, bringing the total number of professors in this specialty to five in Madagascar. Beyond academic recognition, these appointments are expected to bolster national capacity in medical training and research, while also supporting hospital activities.
During the closing ceremony, Minister of Public Health, Dr. Monira Managna, stated that the government aims to expedite the deployment of these new professors to ensure they can immediately contribute to medical education, scientific research, and the broader improvement of public health.
