FOOTBALL – Barea Ladies to face South Africa’s Banyana Banyana in away double-header for Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifiers

The Barea Ladies are set to play both matches against the Banyana Banyana on South African soil. This double-header is part of the second round of the African zone qualifiers for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

According to the Malagasy Football Federation, the first leg will take place on October 9, while the return leg will be held four days later, on October 13. Both matches will be hosted at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, in the Free State province.

To reach this stage of the competition, the players under coach Auguste Raux had to work hard during the first preliminary round held in early June. Facing the Bright Starlets of South Sudan, the Malagasy team drew 1-1 in the first leg before securing a brilliant 1-0 victory in the return match.

This second round represents a significant challenge for the Great Island. South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, the reigning continental champions and seasoned World Cup participants, are one of the greatest powers in African women’s football. The obligation to play both matches away at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein weighs heavily on the outcome.

If the Malagasy selection manages to eliminate the South African team, Madagascar will secure its ticket to the third round, scheduled between February and March 2027. The Great Island will then face the winner of the match between Namibia and Angola.
