A 44-year-old man has been arrested and placed in police custody in Fianarantsoa. According to the police, he was caught in the act of abusing a 12-year-old boy.
The incident occurred in the Ankofafa neighborhood of Fianarantsoa yesterday around 3:30 a.m. The suspect allegedly entered the home while the mother was away, claiming he was looking for her. He then took advantage of the 12-year-old boy’s solitude to assault him.
Despite the suspect’s attempt to gag him, the boy managed to scream for help. Neighbors alerted by the cries caught the man in the act and restrained him, narrowly preventing a lynching before police arrived. The child was taken to the Tambohobe University Hospital for treatment, while the suspect, also injured by the crowd, was hospitalized under police guard.
The case has been handed over to specialized services for the protection of minors. National Police data indicates a rise in such crimes, with seven other cases reported across the country since early August, including incidents in Sofia, Tsiroanomandidy, Tolagnaro, Sambava, Amparafaravola, Antananarivo, Morondava, and Toliara. The police urge citizens to report suspicious behavior immediately to help protect children.
