The Enduro La Touquette, the fifth round of the Madagascar Endurance Championship, took place on Sunday at the Mahajanga Tourist Village.
Thrills and free entertainment were on display as vacationers and locals gathered in large numbers to watch the motocross endurance race. The event was held on the beach of the Tourist Village on Sunday afternoon.
Chang Ming Thierry secured his first victory of the season, finishing first in the general classification and winning the Veterans 2 category. He completed 29 laps in 2 hours, with a best lap time of 3:46.110. David Preve finished second overall and won the Elite 1 category, while Jao Razafindrakotohasina completed the podium and won the MX2 category.
Multiple veteran champion Tarzan Makboul finished just off the overall podium, taking second place in the MX2 category. Huo Tsiresy finished fifth overall and third in MX2. Finaritra Razafindrakoto took sixth place overall and second in MX1. Miadantsoa Razafinarivo, the winner of the opening round in Mahitsy, finished eighth overall and third in MX1. Reunion Island’s Enzo Fouilliaron, who set the fastest lap of the race at 3:37.192, rounded out the top 10 and placed fourth in MX1.
Champion Mathias Plantive was forced to retire after a crash more than an hour into the race. “I was in second place when the rider in front of me fell. I moved into first, but a few seconds later, a backmarker cut me off just as I was about to jump… I had to brake hard to avoid landing on him, and unfortunately, I went over the handlebars,” Mathias recounted. “I tried to push through for a few laps, but I was eventually forced to retire due to the pain,” he added.
Mathias had previously dominated most of the season’s races in both the MX1 and Enduro championships. The sixth and final national round will take place in Mananjary on October 30th.
