EDUCATION – Over 500 stakeholders participate in the consultation for the reform of the technical education sector in Mahajanga

A major first. On August 11 and 12, Mahajanga hosted a consultation dedicated to the reform of technical education and vocational training (ETFP). More than 500 participants from various regions took part in the discussions, both in person and online. Once validated, the resolutions from this meeting will be integrated into the single document for the education sector, which will be submitted during the national consultation on the Refoundation.

The launch ceremony took place in the presence of Prime Minister Mamitiana Rajaonarison and several government members. Teachers, school principals, representatives of regional directorates, partners, authorities, and parents participated in this consultation, which aims to bring the realities experienced on the ground to the forefront. The event also seeks to identify the necessary changes to make training more adapted to the country’s needs.

During these two days, discussions focused on three main pillars: access to training, quality, and governance. In addition to the hundreds of participants present in Mahajanga, online participation via a digital platform was also made possible.

Participants were called upon to review training offers to better align them with the needs of the labor market, while taking into account the specific realities of each region. The use of available resources and the impact of training on populations, particularly the most vulnerable, were also among the concerns. Ultimately, the proposals will be integrated into the single document for the education sector, which will be submitted during the national consultation on the Refoundation.
