Madagascar secured gold and bronze in the girls’ category, and silver in the boys’ category at the first Zone 7 U18 Nations Championship.
The Palais des Sports in Mahamasina was half-full as the Malagasy girls finally overcame their long-standing rivalry with Reunion Island, ending a decade of dominance by the latter. Led by national coaches Danny Rakotondrasoa and Tiana Randriamisason, the team remained undefeated throughout the tournament.
In the final, the Malagasy girls defeated Reunion 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-15). Coach Danny Rakotondrasoa praised the team’s technical, strategic, and mental superiority. Meanwhile, the second Malagasy women’s team claimed the bronze medal by defeating Mauritius 3-2.
In the boys’ category, Mauritius took revenge for their earlier group stage loss by defeating Madagascar 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) in the final. Despite a strong effort from Allan and his teammates, the Mauritian side’s aggressive attack and counter-attack proved decisive. Reunion took the bronze medal after a 3-0 victory over Comoros.
