Six women were sent behind bars in Miarinarivo on Thursday after being arrested for organized pickpocketing.
On Tuesday, August 4, at the Analavory market, plainclothes police officers from the local station were conducting a foot patrol to prevent crime. Two women were caught red-handed in the crowd. Upon questioning, they confessed to the acts and denounced their accomplices, which led to the arrest of four other individuals.
Investigators revealed that this group was in the habit of consulting a fortune teller before committing their crimes, seeking to use occult practices intended to protect them. This preparation confirms a structured organization, where the thefts were not the result of chance, but the result of a concerted strategy.
Presented to the Miarinarivo prosecutor’s office, the six women were placed in pre-trial detention. They will have to answer for their actions before the court.
