It is official. US President Donald Trump has made his choice, designating Marc Dillard as the future US Ambassador to Madagascar. In addition to the Great Island, he will also serve as the US Ambassador to the Comoros.
A native of Virginia, Marc Dillard holds the rank of Minister-Counselor, a high-ranking position within the US diplomatic hierarchy. According to his LinkedIn profile, he served as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the US Embassy in South Africa until February. His name appeared third on the list of new appointees announced by the White House yesterday, a list that must now be submitted to the US Senate for confirmation.
Marc Dillard’s appointment will only be official once validated by the Senate. Like all other individuals on the list, his file will be scrutinized and examined by the relevant committee, followed by a confirmation vote by senators. Once confirmed, the official appointment will be signed by the US President, after which he will be able to take up his post in Antananarivo. This process may take several weeks.
