At just 22 years old, Junior Tsiravay has reached a major milestone by winning his first 100-meter Madagascar championship title this Friday at the Alarobia track. The sprinter from Cosfa Analamanga now harbors a clear ambition: to etch his name among the legends of Malagasy athletics by breaking the iconic national record held by Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa.
Junior Tsiravay is one of the new faces of Malagasy sprinting. This achievement rewards work that began less than five years ago, with his first training session taking place on December 20, 2021. His personal best currently stands at 10.3 seconds, while his 10.4-second performance in the final secured him the national title.
The inspiration behind this sporting journey is unexpected. “I decided to choose athletics by drawing inspiration from Kylian Mbappé, a young player who has shone in the world of football and beyond,” the champion explains.
The new champion does not hide his desire to leave a lasting mark on the history of Malagasy sprinting. “I aim to write my name in the history of Malagasy athletics, and why not on the international stage? My main goal is to break the Madagascar record held by Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa at 10.18 seconds,” he asserts.
The new champion is fully aware of the challenge. “Breaking Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa’s record is not something everyone can do, but I must train very hard and move forward step by step. I am not setting a deadline, but I promise that I will break this record,” he says with a determination that reflects his confidence in his potential.
Junior Tsiravay also wishes to advocate for Malagasy athletes as the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games in Comoros approach. “The State must seriously look into the situation of athletes from the Great Island. We are ready to defend the colors of Madagascar, but the authorities must also take their responsibilities to provide us with the best preparation conditions,” the new Madagascar champion pleads.
