Billions of euros in investment are in the pipeline. The Canada Dubai GCC Economic Chamber and Madagascar signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Anosy on Friday, opening up investment prospects of up to €3.05 billion in the transport sector. The initial €300 million is earmarked to fund feasibility studies for the first projects. The agreement was signed by the Minister of Transport and Meteorology, Herizo Andrianavalona Ramanambola, and Vincent Bernier, President of the Canada Dubai GCC Economic Chamber.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the first phase will primarily fund the technical and feasibility studies necessary to launch priority projects. Initial interventions will focus on port and airport infrastructure, including the modernization of facilities, renewal of equipment, and strengthening of management and security systems. River transport is also among the targeted sectors.
A second phase plans for an additional €750 million in the medium term. This is intended to strengthen several strategic infrastructures, particularly through the expansion of major ports and the modernization of airport facilities. Investments are also planned for the railway network, especially on routes with the highest economic potential. In the longer term, €2 billion is envisioned for major national railway projects and the integration of new technologies into port infrastructure.
Based in Dubai, the Canada Dubai GCC Economic Chamber acts as a platform to strengthen economic relations between Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. It supports its member companies in their international development and the establishment of trade and investment partnerships. The signing of the MoU aims to identify and prepare projects eligible for these investments, with feasibility studies serving as the first step.
