5×5 Basketball: Madagascar Dominates Zimbabwe

The young Ankoay team has secured a second convincing victory against Zimbabwe, bringing Madagascar closer to qualifying for the final phase scheduled for August in Dakar.

The Ankoay continue their flawless run in the U18 Boys’ Afrobasket qualifiers held in Zimbabwe. Following their initial win against Namibia, the Malagasy team confirmed their momentum by decisively defeating the host nation with a score of 88-44 (14-14, 23-12, 24-7, 27-11).

Although Zimbabwe opened the scoring, the first quarter remained balanced. However, the Ankoay found their rhythm in the second quarter, gradually widening the gap. By halftime, Madagascar led 37-24. The Malagasy team dominated the second half, with the intensity proving too much for the hosts. Madagascar finished the third quarter with a 28-point lead and cruised to an 88-44 victory.

Individually, Emerick Raveloarison stood out as the top scorer for Madagascar with 19 points, followed by Khenyo Raherivolaniaina (11 points), A’Ranty (12 points), and Thesbon Matazaky Raolompanantena (12 points). For Zimbabwe, Johnson Gide led with 12 points.

The competition continues with return matches. Madagascar is now in a strong position to secure the zone’s sole qualifying ticket for the U18 Afrobasket final phase in Dakar.
