As he prepares to depart, the French Ambassador hosted his final July 14th reception yesterday. In his farewell address, he emphasized the quality of bilateral relations between Madagascar and France, as well as with other European Union member states.
‘Not partners for a day, but partners for all time.’ These were the words used by Arnaud Guillois, the French Ambassador, to summarize the quality of bilateral relations between France and Madagascar. He extended this high-quality partnership to the cooperation between the ‘Great Island’ and the member states of the European Union (EU).
‘Madagascar can count on constant, reliable, and transparent partners to achieve this. Not partners for a day, but partners for all time. The European Union and its member states are certainly among them, sharing the common goal of a more prosperous, stable, and democratic Madagascar,’ the diplomat stated yesterday at the French Residence in Ivandry during the traditional July 14th reception.
Ambassador Guillois also highlighted the economic weight of bilateral ties, noting that France remains one of the country’s main economic partners through its 55 subsidiaries and hundreds of companies with French capital. He stressed that businesses require a stable, healthy, and predictable business climate to foster inclusive and sustainable growth.
The diplomat also addressed the geopolitical context, including the war in Ukraine and its consequences for Madagascar, such as rising commodity prices. He further referenced the Nairobi Declaration, emphasizing the rejection of foreign interference and the use of mercenaries in Africa, a point clearly intended to address the shifting geopolitical landscape in the region.
