PARLIAMENT – Parliamentary inquiry commission questions Jirama executives at Tsimbazaza

A large delegation from Jirama visited the National Assembly this Thursday to respond to a summons from the parliamentary inquiry commission regarding the state-owned company. The interim Director General of the national water and electricity company, General Hajatiana Rasolomanana, accompanied by his team, participated in a lengthy question-and-answer session with members of the commission, chaired by Deputy Pety Rakotoniaina.

At the opening of the session, the commission chairman reiterated that the goal of the meeting was to gather precise information to help parliamentarians better understand the management of the state-owned company. He described the process as an effort to establish an objective assessment before formulating potential recommendations. Among the questions raised was the status of Jirama before and after September 2025.

The commission also requested that Jirama officials provide a complete list of production and operational sites managed by the public enterprise across Madagascar. The elected officials are seeking more details on the operation of each site, their production capacities, and their contribution to the supply of drinking water and electricity in various regions. “We want to know how these sites operate and their respective production levels,” emphasized Pety Rakotoniaina.

The issue of public funding granted to the company also occupied a significant part of the discussions. The tone adopted by the parliamentarians revealed serious suspicions. “The state grants billions of ariary to Jirama as subsidies; we all know that there is embezzlement and theft,” he reported on the sidelines of the meeting. The interim Director General of Jirama, on behalf of his entire team, took an oath to tell the whole truth as part of this investigation.
