A historic voice was missing from Tselatra during the highly anticipated ‘Revy sy Rock Mandrakizay’ event held last March at the Barea Stadium’s annex parking lot. Although the band participated in the event to perform their cult tracks, Eric was unable to take the stage due to eye problems. For the grand celebration of Tselatra’s 45-year career, the historic lead singer has returned to Madagascar. The band will be at full strength for this anniversary concert, which aims to be much more than a simple celebration.
Rehearsals, which began in Isoraka, allow the band to refine the final details of the concert. ‘It’s like studying: without revision, there is no memory,’ emphasizes Eric. For about two and a half hours, the audience will discover a show blending tracks that marked the band’s history with more recent songs, some recorded with Dama. Tselatra also wishes to introduce its new compositions, even though the public often still demands the older hits.
‘We always keep what makes Tselatra’s identity,’ Eric reminds us. Despite new arrangements, rock remains at the heart of the repertoire. The band also intends to preserve its Malagasy identity: ‘Our songs are deeply Malagasy. Even in our way of singing, we ensure there is no foreign influence.’
The show promises a grand entrance, elaborate scenography, as well as enhanced lighting, sound systems, and visual effects. The band is also planning significant styling work, with clothing creations capable of competing with major international brands when technical means allow. The instruments and equipment used, some of which were purchased in the United States, France, and Italy, will also contribute to the show’s aesthetics.
