RAOTO ANDRIAMANAMBE: ‘A capital without a marathon reflects the state of the country’s sports health’

Raoto Andriamanambe, a journalist and long-distance trail runner, shares his thoughts on the postponement of the Tana International Marathon. He discusses the consequences for athletes and the significance of such an event for the capital.

Regarding the postponement, Andriamanambe expressed his disappointment, noting that the event was a major goal for his season. He explained that while road running and trail running differ, they are complementary, requiring specific training adjustments such as focusing on pace and fundamental endurance.

He highlighted the financial burden on athletes who had already invested in nutrition and physical preparation. Beyond the individual impact, he emphasized that a marathon serves as a sporting showcase for a city. He stated, ‘A capital that has been unable to organize a marathon for many years reflects the overall state of health of its sports and society.’

Finally, he called for seamless cohesion among all stakeholders, including the Malagasy Athletics Federation, partners, and the citizens, noting that hosting a marathon requires a collective effort to improve urban living conditions, such as cleanliness.
