ACCIDENT PREVENTION – The Vehicle Technical Inspection Center strengthens road checks

Strengthening road safety and preventing accidents caused by vehicle technical failures is the objective of the information campaign organized by the Vehicle Technical Inspection Center (CVT), which presented its missions and the procedures for surprise technical inspections carried out on the roads.

General Jean Benoît Andriantody, Director in charge of road activity coordination (DGSR/DOR), recalled that the CVT ensures the compliance of vehicles before they are put into circulation. The institution intervenes notably through pre-clearance inspections, technical approvals, periodic technical visits, and surprise checks carried out on road axes. It also conducts awareness-raising actions to encourage users to respect road safety rules.

According to Lieutenant-Colonel Rija Alberto Rakotomampianina, head of operations and surprise technical inspections, these interventions make it possible to identify vehicles with technical defects or administrative irregularities that could endanger road users. The checks focus in particular on the validity of the technical inspection, mandatory documents, and the general condition of the vehicles.

No payment

The authorities note that among the most frequent offenses are the absence or expiration of the technical inspection, non-compliant administrative documents, the use of unauthorized tinted windows, the absence of license plates, or the circulation of vehicles already declared unfit. Agents also check the condition of tires, windshields, lighting and signaling devices, as well as smoke emissions, all of which can lead to a refusal during the technical inspection.

Lieutenant-Colonel Eugène Rakotoarisoa, head of the anti-corruption service within the Vehicle Technical Inspection Center, clarified that no fine payments are made during checks on public roads. Offenders must pay sanctions only to the competent services, a measure intended to prevent acts of corruption.
