The Andoharanofotsy club defeated Ajesaia in the final of the Madagascar Elite Division championship yesterday at the By-Pass. With this victory, CFFA will represent the country in the African Champions League.
A second star. The Centre de Formation de Football d’Andoharanofotsy (CFFA) has won its second Madagascar Elite Division championship title, following its first in 2022. CFFA triumphed 2-1 in the final of the Pure Play Football League (PFL) yesterday at the packed Elgeco Plus Stadium in By-Pass.
The Andoharanofotsy team will now represent the nation in the African Champions League. CFFA dominated play from the start. Barea Chan player Gregas, named man of the match, opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a free kick into the top right corner.
The Bemasoandro club responded after the first quarter-hour. Anthony narrowly missed a header at the far post (14th). Following a breakaway by Cristiano on the right wing, he set up Tahina in the center, who scored the second goal (35th). Ajesaia reduced the gap just before halftime. On a two-on-one play, Coco provided a decisive assist for Basta, who finished the move (44th). Ajesaia was forced to play with ten men after the expulsion of Coco, who slapped the CFFA captain and defender, Rova, during the club’s final attack before the break.
The match was largely dominated by the team from Antaninkatsaka and maintained a high rhythm after the break. The ‘Yellows’ often confused speed with precipitation and failed to convert their opportunities. The best goalkeeper award went to Goal Kely of CFFA, while the top scorer award was given to Fabrice, a forward from Disciples FC. The champion club’s coach, Franck Rajaonarisamba, was voted best coach. “We had a great start to the match. We suffered in the second half, but fortunately, we were able to maintain our advantage,” said the coach.
“We were not clinical in our finishing, whereas the opposing team hardly missed. Furthermore, reduced to ten men, we struggled to impose ourselves in the second half,” admitted Ajesaia coach Yves Rabemaromanga. “We will need to strengthen the defense and rejuvenate some elements for the African campaign,” coach Franck emphasized. Both teams are set to compete in the round of 16 of the National Cup.
