The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) is testing a new traffic plan in the Ankadimbahoaka-Tsimbazaza-Fasan’ny Karana intersection area to alleviate congestion on these strategic routes.
The CUA has launched a simulation operation along the Ankadimbahoaka – Tsimbazaza – Fasan’ny Karana intersection axis. This initiative mobilizes relevant officials to evaluate measures aimed at improving traffic flow in this highly congested zone.
“We conducted a traffic simulation in Ankadimbahoaka to identify major bottlenecks. The analysis focused on southbound vehicles, from the Ankadimbahoaka roundabout to the exit towards the By-pass. It became evident that vehicles cutting across traffic to enter Poinimerina, Ankaditoho, and Tsimbazaza streets are the primary cause of traffic jams. Whether turning into these streets or exiting them to join the RN7, these maneuvers disrupt multiple lanes and interfere with up to five different traffic flows,” explained Divisional Police Commissioner Andrianina Ratsimba, Director of Transport and Urban Mobility (DMTU) at the CUA.
Removal of bus stops
The objective is to minimize traffic congestion on these main axes as much as possible and improve travel conditions for all road users.
“In return, vehicles will now be able to access the road leading to CAPSAT, as the road surface is currently in good condition. Clear signage, including panels and road markings, will be installed to guide motorists and avoid confusion. We will also incorporate feedback from road users into this new traffic organization. Once the system is finalized, it will be made public,” the DMTU added.
Among the solutions under consideration is the removal or relocation of certain bus stops, aimed at facilitating vehicle flow and reducing traffic jams. The CUA states that this simulation phase is currently ongoing. Motorists, public transport drivers, and pedestrians are urged to follow the instructions of agents deployed on-site to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the project.
“Final decisions, as well as the implementation schedule for any potential changes, will be communicated to the public following the completion of current studies and preparations,” the CUA announced in a statement yesterday.
