Traffic in Antanimena is set to become slightly more challenging as the construction site expands. The Urban Commune of Antananarivo (CUA) has announced the closure of an additional road section in the district as part of the infrastructure works for the second phase of the Antananarivo Integrated Sanitation Program (PIAA2), which involves the installation of large water conduits.
“Vehicle traffic will be disrupted on Rue Ampanjaka Toera, extending from the Jovena station in Antanimena to the Croix du Sud pharmacy,” the CUA stated yesterday.
This closure is scheduled to take effect from Thursday, July 2, 2026, to Saturday, August 8, 2026. “Traffic regulation measures will be continuously enforced by law enforcement on-site, and everyone is strongly urged to comply,” noted the CUA.
The Antanimena project is divided into four stages. “For the ongoing second phase, a major structure remains to be completed. The third phase covers the section between the Jovena station and the Croix du Sud pharmacy,” indicated Oyo Andrianirinaholisoa Razakamahefa, coordinator of the PIAA2.
The fourth and final phase will involve replacing underground channels between the Pochard Soarano area and the Croix du Sud pharmacy in Antanimena. To achieve this, one lane will be closed to traffic. However, to minimize congestion, this work will not commence until the other road sections have been reopened.
