SPORTS DANCE – Rija Randrianarisoa celebrates 30 years on stage

A nostalgic celebration. Rijamanitra Randrianarisoa, the current president of the Malagasy Federation of Sports Dance, is celebrating his 30th anniversary as a professional dancer, as well as the 25th anniversary of his dance school and club, Dih’Art. “Disappointed that I could not excel as a professional in one of my passions, football, I decided to dedicate myself to dance—rock ‘n’ roll and ballroom dancing—my lifelong passion,” shares Rijamanitra.

To mark the occasion, he will organize a grand show titled “Journey Through Time” at the CCI amphitheater in Ivato on August 2nd, aimed at retracing all the milestone memories from different eras of his career. “There will be free-style dancing, and I invite the public to participate, to dance rock ‘n’ roll, bachata, kizomba, salsa, and zumba. Other guest dancers will honor the occasion with their presence, including those from my generation, Up The Rap, a club from Diego-Suarez, Akama Dihy Tanà, and the Antananarivo Urban Commune club,” he mentioned.

Rija began dancing at the age of 8 and joined a dance club in the 90s. He participated in almost all rock ‘n’ roll competitions at the Alliance Française and won several titles. He also competed in international standard dance competitions, notably winning a title in France. He was a dancer for artists such as Tovo J’Hay, Do Rajohnson, and Ivoara. He served as the first National Technical Director of the first Sports Dance Federation starting in 2008. He was elected president in 2020 and is currently in his second term, which runs until 2029.

“Dih’Art has had thousands of members over these 25 years, with 120 currently attending regularly. Two-thirds are women. Twelve instructors provide training. About fifty alumni will come to celebrate with us at this event,” confided the founder. 70% of the members are children aged 4 to 15. “We have been educating children through dance since a young age. Dih’Art offers the ‘Rising Stars’ session, which combines dance, singing, theater, and modeling, with the goal of training and detecting talent,” he concluded.
