SHOWBIZ – Sound reinforcement plays a crucial role

Behind every successful concert lie significant investments, meticulous preparation, and technicians capable of ensuring flawless sound from the first note to the last.

Audiences often remember the artists, the songs, and the atmosphere. Yet, the success of a show also relies on an essential element: the quality of the sound reinforcement. Clear, balanced, and powerful sound is not improvised; it is the result of long preparation, ranging from the choice of equipment to the final adjustments made before the arrival of the spectators.

In the field, this work relies heavily on technicians. Ny Ranto Razafimanjato, a freelance sound engineer, explains that everything begins with an analysis phase. The number of expected spectators, the venue’s characteristics, and the artists’ requirements are studied in advance. This information is consolidated into a technical rider that serves as a reference for the entire team.

“The sound reinforcement must be adapted to the artist and the conditions of the show,” he emphasizes. Once the needs are defined, technicians proceed with equipment installation, followed by tuning and sound checks. Each artist performs trials to adjust levels and save the necessary parameters for the performance. According to him, each artist should ideally be accompanied by their own technician to ensure a result that meets their expectations.

In Madagascar, Rossy is one of the pioneers in this field. The artist recalls discovering international standards very early on during his tours in Germany starting in 1983. “These experiences allowed us to understand the importance of solid technical infrastructure to support a show,” he explains.

In 1991, he acquired his first professional equipment in Germany. Over the years, investments have multiplied. With every trip abroad, new equipment has enriched his technical inventory. Along with his collaborators, he gradually implemented technical riders inspired by international practices. Foreign specialists are also invited to Madagascar to train local technicians and share their know-how.

Transfer of skills

Rossy points out that technological evolution requires new investments today. This year, his company has strengthened its equipment with Nexo sound systems, considered among the benchmarks in the industry. Generators, lighting devices, and technical infrastructure are also essential components. “The public’s level of demand is constantly evolving, and we must keep pace with this progress,” he summarizes.

This same logic guides the company Miritsoka, active in the events sector since 2008. Both a show organizer and a logistics provider, the company has developed progressively from a small sound system installation. Today, it offers rentals of high-power audio systems, stage and ambient lighting, stages, aluminum structures, marquees, and generators.

For Zoniaina Randriatsiresy, Communications Manager, the choice of equipment is one of the keys to the success of an event. “The reliability of the equipment is decisive when it comes to ensuring a high-quality performance,” he asserts.
