A reception center for people with albinism is under construction in Ihosy. Elisa Randrianirina, wife of the president of the Refondation de la République de Madagascar, has responded to the call for solidarity launched by authorities on behalf of this vulnerable community. Through her association, Fanjiry, she is funding the construction of this center for reception, healthcare, and education, which is intended to protect these individuals.
“My heart bleeds in the face of the persecution, suffering, and murders that our fellow citizens endure for no valid reason. (…) I will not abandon you; you are my family and my fellow citizens,” the First Lady declared with emotion during the official groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday to mark the start of construction.
The new complex will have a capacity of approximately 125 people. It will include a place of worship and reflection, separate dormitories for men and women, and a medical care center. The infrastructure is expected to be completed in December.
“Support us in the hard daily battle we are waging against insecurity and social exclusion,” stated Fulgence Soja, president of the local association for people with albinism.
The First Lady issued a vibrant appeal for general mobilization to protect people with albinism, urging everyone to uphold the values of fraternity and solidarity.
People with albinism are victims of severe discrimination and various forms of violence in their daily and professional lives, and they face the constant threat of kidnapping throughout Madagascar, particularly in the southern regions. Driven by the false belief that their physical attributes possess precious virtues, these acts of great cruelty keep this community in a state of daily insecurity and anguish.
