An 18-year-old man died after being stabbed during a show in Ambositra. The arrest of the suspect sparked tensions.
The young man was reportedly stabbed in the chest, near the heart, during a brawl that broke out at a show in Ambositra the day before yesterday. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries. A man suspected of being the perpetrator was arrested. His detention triggered unrest, with a crowd demanding mob justice. Local authorities, led by the prefect, intervened to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
The event had gathered a large crowd in an open space. A fight suddenly broke out among several men early in the evening. “There was pushing in the crowd, and our friend was punched. He fought back. Several other men then arrived. While we were holding the one who hit him, another person stabbed our friend. We immediately rushed him to the hospital,” a witness recounted.
The 18-year-old victim lived in Tsileondrano, Ambositra. The deep chest wound proved fatal.
Targeted by the angry crowd, the suspect was subjected to violence. Several police officers intervened to extract him and prevent a lynching. However, throughout the evening, groups of people followed them to the police station, gathering in front of it. Authorities had to intervene to appease the crowd and ensure that the investigation would proceed and the case would be brought to justice.
