An additional 5 MW is now being injected into the Antananarivo Interconnected Grid (RIA) thanks to the gradual commissioning of the Moramanga solar power plant. According to the Ministry of Energy and Hydrocarbons, up to 12 MW could eventually be supplied to the capital’s grid.
With an installed capacity of 15 MWp, the plant features over 21,800 solar panels. Currently, 5 MW are being fed into the RIA. New equipment is expected early next week to allow for a gradual increase in the facility’s power output, stated the Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons, Radonirina Lucas Rabearimanga.
The goal is to progressively increase the injection to 12 MW dedicated to the Antananarivo grid. The commissioning of the Moramanga plant is among the measures initiated since the beginning of September to strengthen electricity production available on the RIA.
Minister Radonirina Lucas Rabearimanga visited the site on Thursday to observe the progress of the plant’s commissioning. His visit also included support for the Marozevo commune, which received several streetlights intended to improve public lighting.
