With two rounds remaining in the regular season, every point matters in the Madagascar Men’s Rugby XV Championship, the XXL Energy Top 12. The eleventh round, held this Sunday at the Makis Stadium in Andohatapenaka, will feature three matches, but all eyes will be on the showdown between Club Étoile d’Andranomanalina (CEA) and US Ankadifotsy, scheduled for 3 p.m.
Sitting second in the standings with 47 points and an impressive goal difference of +219, CEA is having a top-tier season. Having already secured their spot in the playoff semi-finals, the Andranomanalina club will look to consolidate their position among the title contenders and maintain their winning momentum. Another victory would also allow them to approach the final stages with maximum confidence.
On the other side, US Ankadifotsy can no longer afford any mistakes. Fifth with 34 points and a goal difference of +54 after ten rounds, the club has a lot at stake regarding its chances of breaking into the Top 4. A victory over CEA would fully revive their qualification ambitions, while a defeat would seriously complicate their mission ahead of the final rounds.
Beyond the statistics, this clash promises an intense battle between two teams with different playing styles. CEA relies on a prolific attack and a solid defense, featuring two of the championship’s fastest players, Jean Yves and Laou.
Conversely, US Ankadifotsy focuses on physical engagement and the ability to turn situations around in key moments. Their major asset is national fly-half Hery Rakotomanalina, known for his magical kicking in conversions.
Supporters are also eagerly awaiting this match. “We have confidence in our team. CEA has demonstrated its solidity since the beginning of the season, and we are convinced they will be able to confirm their status as favorites,” says Tsimba Heritiana, a supporter of the Andranomanalina club.
