At just 12 years old, Areyanna Raharinosy continues her progress on the African stage. After securing 11th place in her last Grade 1 tournament in Zimbabwe, the young Malagasy tennis player reached a new milestone by participating in the U14 African Championship in Morocco.
Partnered with Kimberly in doubles, Areyanna advanced to the quarter-finals. Her journey ended against the Moroccan pair of Dina Jaoid and Yacout, who were playing on home soil. Despite this elimination, reaching this stage of the competition remains encouraging for the young Malagasy, who is still competing in the U12 category.
In singles, Areyanna also broke into the Top 20 of this continental event—a notable result in a competition that brought together many of the best African players in the U14 category. She also leaves Morocco with additional points in the Confederation of African Tennis (CAT) rankings.
This trip allowed her to gain more international experience. For her mother, Henintsoa Rakotosalama, who accompanied her, the young player was able to measure the gap between competitions played in Madagascar and the level encountered on the African scene. “She has gained a lot of experience, as the level in Morocco is higher than in Madagascar. The opponents are very strong and, above all, accustomed to international competitions. Facing them has strengthened Areyanna’s motivation and allowed her to better gauge the level of African tennis,” she explained.
This experience now fuels her desire to participate more in international competitions. However, in an individual sport like tennis, frequent travel represents a significant financial burden. “Our wish is for her to participate regularly in these types of competitions, but our means do not always allow it. I am therefore launching an appeal to potential partners to support tennis. In individual sports, one often gets the impression that the player advances alone, even though they carry their own name while representing their country,” her mother emphasized.
At 12, Areyanna Raharinosy continues her learning process by competing against more experienced players. Increasing international competitions should allow her to continue progressing and gaining experience on the African circuit.
