Ny Aina Liantsoa Andrimasinavalona, who went missing in Ambohimanambola on July 15, was found dead yesterday in the Ikopa River.
A tragedy occurred yesterday in Mahitsy, in the commune of Alasora. Police recovered the lifeless body of 22-year-old student Ny Aina Liantsoa Andrimasinavalona, a resident of Ampahimanga, Ambohimanambola Gara, from the Ikopa River near the pine trees between Ambohimanambola and the Amoronankona roundabout.
The young man had been reported missing since Wednesday, July 15, and a search notice had been circulated on social media. Authorities conducted a six-day search before making this grim discovery.
According to initial findings by police and a doctor at the scene, the victim likely drowned. No signs of violence or strangulation were found on his body, although his face showed lesions, likely caused by aquatic animals. Investigators state that further inquiries will determine the exact causes and circumstances of the death. The body has been released to the family for funeral arrangements.
A police officer at the scene noted that the body was found floating in a position characteristic of drowning, not far from a small eatery. A colleague, after contacting the victim’s younger brother, reported that the deceased’s clothing, phone, and wallet were intact. The family is awaiting the results of the investigation before commenting on any potential criminal leads.
Ny Aina Liantsoa was an IT student at the IT University in Andoharanofotsy. He was scheduled to present a mini-defense the day after his disappearance. What should have been a day of celebration for him and his loved ones turned into a tragedy. He was also involved in scouting as an active member of the Sampana Maitso 154e Ambohibato troop.
The announcement of his disappearance had been widely shared on social media. He was last seen on July 15 around 7:30 PM in Tanjonandriana Ambohimanambola, wearing a black hoodie, grey jogging pants, and a cap. His relatives had stated that he was in good mental health and had shared phone numbers to collect information, but to no avail.
