Construction of the future Mangoky Bridge is progressing. The Ministry of Public Works reports that the construction of the 880-meter-long bridge on the RN9, which connects the Atsimo-Andrefana region to the Menabe region, is 47% complete. Technical details indicate that the construction of multi-cell culverts, two abutments, 128 piles, and nine out of seventeen footings is 100% complete. Six out of the fifteen required piers have already been installed.
In parallel, the construction of the 7 km connecting road is underway, with foundation and base layers currently being laid. Regarding the Fenoarivo bridge, the completion rate has reached 5% so far. The construction of this massive infrastructure, considered one of the most important in the country, is being carried out by the China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC), which is utilizing high-level technologies.
Funded primarily by Arab funds through the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), and the Malagasy State, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Pending the bridge’s commissioning, particularly during the rainy season, river crossings are still being conducted via a rope-pulled ferry.
