NATIONAL CONSULTATION – KMF/Cnoe demands transparency

The National Committee for Election Observation and Civic Education (KMF/Cnoe) has expressed concerns regarding the outcome of the national consultation. The committee is demanding clarification on the process and its various stages to prevent the public from being presented with a fait accompli. They are particularly questioning the modalities of discussions concerning the form of state envisioned for the Fifth Republic.

“Until now, powers have been concentrated in the hands of the President. How, then, will we be able to precisely define his powers?” stated the committee’s president, Namearson Robert, during a telephone interview yesterday.

The procedures for selecting participants for the consultations scheduled at various levels, under the aegis of the Council of Christian Churches in Madagascar (FFKM), are also raising questions within the KMF/Cnoe.

“The third point concerns the technical aspects of defining the subjects for which solutions will be sought at each level. What will be the weight of grassroots consultations compared to the national-level consultation? What will also be the follow-up to the consultation organized by the Presidency of the Republic on elections? All of this remains unclear to the population,” added the KMF/Cnoe president.

Despite these questions, the committee intends to participate in the national consultation. However, it sets the clarification of the various points raised as a prerequisite.
