FOOTBALL – TRANSFER – Coach Rôrô joins Al Merrikh SC

Finally. A second appearance on the Sudanese club’s Facebook page a month later, with a smile on his face. Former Barea head coach, Romuald Félix Rakotondrabe, officially joined the Sudanese club Al Merrikh SC on September 1st. Coach Rôrô is embarking on a new adventure. He signed a one-year renewable contract in early July with the Sudanese club, which has been competing in the Rwanda Premier League for several years.

The coach, a silver medalist at the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2025, a bronze medalist at the previous CHAN, and a gold medalist at the 2023 Indian Ocean Island Games on home soil, will take charge of the U23 team and the reserve squad for the first team.

This time, he will be in good company alongside his compatriots, four of whom were also silver medalists at the 2025 CHAN. Two of them have already played a full season for the “Reds”: former Fosa Juniors FC defender Nicolas Randriamanampisoa and former Ajesaia striker Fenohasina Gilles Razafimaro. Former CFFA striker Mika Razafimahanta, known as “Gregas,” also joined the club a month ago. The physical trainer for the Barea CHAN team, Tsitohaina Rakotomalala, alias “Bebeto,” has also been in Rwanda for a few days.

One of Coach Rôrô’s primary missions will be to turn the reserve team into a true talent pool for the elite squad. “I will attend the first team’s match against Power Dynamos at Amahoro Stadium in Rwanda on Saturday, as part of the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League,” Coach Rôrô confided.
