The investigation into the murder of two young girls from Manjakaray has gripped the capital. Their families are relying on the authorities to establish the truth and ensure justice is served.
The murder of 21-year-old Stéphanie Nohasoavina Mikaella Israele and 17-year-old Vololoniaina Haingotiana Rasamison continues to spark deep emotion. The families of the two young women, originally from Manjakaray, are trusting the investigators to clarify the circumstances of their deaths and bring justice. They stated they wish to let the authorities conduct their investigations impartially and refuse to let this tragedy be exploited for political purposes.
Yesterday afternoon, Haingotiana’s family indicated they preferred to remain silent, as the pain remains too raw while the burial has not yet taken place. The relatives apologized to journalists who had requested an interview, clarifying that this refusal was not out of contempt, but a desire to preserve their privacy.
The family also urged internet users to be vigilant, believing that much of the information circulating online is erroneous or fabricated and risks disrupting the investigators’ work. They specified that the funeral ceremony will be held tomorrow in Ambohidrabiby and thanked those who have shown them support during this ordeal.
“Stéphanie was killed under horrific circumstances,” said her mother, Israéline Rasoloarivelo. Rado Ambinitsoa, a family member, also spoke in a video posted online: “I will never accept that those responsible for this murder remain unpunished. May justice be done.”
On Sunday evening, a rumor spread on social media claiming the state had promised a reward of 50 million ariary for any reliable information leading to the identification of the perpetrators and their potential accomplices. Stéphanie’s family indicated they had received no confirmation regarding this. The authorities, for their part, have not confirmed this announcement.
Two days earlier, the two young women had left Manjakaray to go to the cinema in Ambodivona. They never returned. Their phones stopped transmitting around 4:30 PM, with the last signal located in Ambohimanga Rova. Their bodies were later found in a ravine in Andranomatsatso. Their bags, phones, and shoes were missing. Both victims suffered severe head and neck injuries, which appear to have been inflicted with a sharp object.
