Trade relations between Madagascar and Mauritius are being strengthened through the Mauritius-Madagascar Business Forum, held in Antananarivo from August 18 to 21.
The event brings together economic actors from both countries to discuss trade opportunities, partnerships, and business internationalization.
According to Lalaina Randriamasy, Director of External Relations Promotion at the Ministry of Trade and Consumption, Mauritius is the second-largest African destination for Malagasy exports, accounting for 13% of the country’s total exports. These exports, primarily agricultural and fishery products, are on the rise. Trade is reciprocal, with Madagascar also importing goods from Mauritius.
For Malagasy operators, this dynamic offers a chance to expand networks and identify new market outlets. Meetings organized under the SheTrades Mauritius Hub trade mission allow companies to showcase products, understand market expectations, and engage with potential local partners.
The mission includes a business forum, B2B meetings, stakeholder discussions, and company visits. A total of 91 participants from various sectors are involved, including agro-industry, ICT, professional services, education, crafts, renewable energy, hospitality, textiles, essential oils, and plastic waste recycling.
The initiative also highlights female entrepreneurship. The SheTrades Mauritius Hub, created in March 2023 by the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Mauritius, supports women-led businesses in their development and access to international markets. Since its inception, over 100 women-led companies have joined the community.
Nirmala Jeetah, Director of Healthy & Life Science at the ITC SheTrades Mauritius Hub, noted that the program provides training, coaching, and opportunities to participate in regional and international trade fairs, aligning with the International Trade Centre’s (ITC) global SheTrades initiative.
