TAEKWONDO – Madagascar to host the Southern Africa Cup

A first-ever event. The Malagasy ITF Taekwondo Commission, chaired by Miora Andrianjaka, officially announced yesterday at the Ambaranjana dojang that “Madagascar will host the first edition of the Southern Africa Cup.” The zonal summit, which will bring together approximately two hundred taekwondo practitioners from four member countries of the region—namely South Africa, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and Madagascar—will be held on November 7 and 8 at the Mahamasina gymnasium. The three foreign countries are expected to field a total of about twenty fighters.

“Representatives of the countries involved proposed the organization of this first edition during a seminar in South Africa in 2024. They decided to hold this zonal competition in Madagascar during the International Instructors Courses led by Grand Master Ung Kim Lan in May 2025 in Antananarivo,” explained Maurice Rakotoarisoa, founder of the national commission.

As it is a cup, “it will be an open competition. Participant registration remains open until October 24,” mentioned Tafita Rakotoarisoa, the chief technical officer. Refereeing workshops are planned in Analamanga and Alaotra-Mangoro before the event. “All participants should also attend a workshop led by the technical officials of each country on October 7,” specified Tafita Rakotoarisoa.
