Madagascar continues the renewal of its diplomatic network. The Council of Ministers on August 4 appointed Prof. Olga Ramiarinjanahary as the Ambassador of Madagascar to the Republic of Mauritius. This designation brings to twelve the number of ambassadors appointed by the Refoundation regime since it came to power.
Prof. Olga Ramiarinjanahary succeeds Camille Vital, who was relieved of his duties in November 2025. Prior to her appointment, she was a teacher-researcher at the University of Toliara. She also served as vice-president of the Fanjiry association, a social organization chaired by First Lady Elisa Randrianirina.
The ambassador’s appointment comes as several cases involving Malagasy nationals in Mauritius are drawing the attention of authorities in both countries. Key issues include the follow-up on cases concerning Malagasy citizens arrested in recent months, as well as matters related to businessman Mamy Ravatomanga.
With this appointment, the Refoundation regime continues the gradual restoration of the Malagasy diplomatic presence abroad. When it came to power, only one ambassador remained in office, Lantosoa Rakotomalala in the United States, following the revocation of serving ambassadors in November 2025 and given that several positions had been vacant for years.
Since then, eleven other heads of diplomatic missions have been appointed. The first was Richard Lalaina Randrianomenjanahary, appointed to China in January. Subsequent appointments included Michel Rabemahefa in France, Edelin Calixte Randriamiandrisoa in Switzerland, Auguste Paraina in Ethiopia, Joahary Ratovondrahona in Morocco, Toavina Ralambomahay in South Africa, Ny Hasina Andriamanjato in Russia, Lanto Rahajarizafy to the United Nations in New York, Alain Manajary Razafimbelo in Germany, Félicité Marie Rasoanoro in Japan, and Christine Razanamahasoa to UNESCO.
The appointment of Prof. Olga Ramiarinjanahary is in line with the policy of reconstituting the diplomatic corps initiated by the new authorities, as several of Madagascar’s diplomatic representations had remained without an ambassador for several years.
