The second edition of the Makua Music Festival will bring together around twenty established artists, emerging young talents, and representatives of traditional culture in Toamasina.
Four days of music and culture are being prepared in Toamasina. After a first edition and a hiatus in 2025, the Makua Music Festival returns from October 29 to November 1. For this second edition, about twenty artists will take over the Jet d’Eau Toamasina 501 site, with a program blending major figures of the music scene, emerging talents, and expressions of traditional culture.
Announced artists include Rossy, Shyn, Denise, Dadi Love, Lico Kininike, Tence Mena, Basta Lion, LJO, Ceasar, Boendy, Lion Hill, Sakateboy, Kaiamba, Dada Samy Malagasy, Rita Basesa, and Nantenaina. Rossy is the headliner, while Shyn and Denise, who are also organizing the festival in partnership with Yas Madagascar, will perform themselves. “It is about contributing to the development of Toamasina while offering a stage to Malagasy artists,” Shyn emphasizes. DJs will also provide entertainment throughout the event.
The festival also aims to give a significant place to young artists. From noon, when doors open, performances by selected young talents, animations, and various activities will be offered until 6 PM. Games, entertainment for youth, childcare, and a photobooth are planned during this All Saints’ holiday period. Two stages will be set up to host the various performances.
Traditional culture will also play a major role from the opening, with a grand carnival and the honoring of vakodrazana, basesa, kaiamba, and traditional songs. The initiative also aims to attract tourists and encourage participant creativity. The three best costumes will receive 2 million, 1 million, and 500,000 ariary respectively.
The choice of the Jet d’Eau Toamasina 501 site allows for a large audience, with a capacity of up to 30,000 people. Inside, 119 stands will be installed, including catering areas featuring a renowned chef.
Finally, security is a key priority for the event. The National Police, civil security, security agents, medical staff, and firefighters will be mobilized. Entrances will be controlled by scanners, and collaboration with nearby hotels is also planned.
