Rak Roots’ songs continue to leave a mark on the music scene, despite the singer’s untimely passing. This Sunday, starting at 3:00 PM, the VIP Zone at Barea Mahamasina will host a tribute concert featuring several artists, including Skaiz, Ayam, Nate Tex, and Tsanta, to celebrate his musical legacy.
Multiple generations of artists will gather on stage to pay tribute to the man who left his mark on Malagasy variety music with his romantic songs. This musical event will bring together Rak Roots’ admirers to enjoy his most famous tracks, in a moment dedicated to the artist’s memory and his repertoire.
Born Loïc Rakotonirina, Rak Roots passed away at the age of 30, on the night of July 20 to 21, 2022, following an asthma attack while traveling to Mahajanga. His sudden death caused deep emotion among both his fans and the music industry.
Throughout his career, the singer became well-known for hits such as “Faka vady” and “Ilay silako.” His compositions, heavily influenced by romantic themes, allowed him to reach a large audience, particularly women. His songs continue to keep his memory alive among his fans today.
Following his death, a wake in his honor was held at the Palais des Sports in Mahamasina, before his burial in Antsirabe. This tribute reflected the deep emotion caused by the loss of this figure of contemporary music.
With the participation of several artists from all generations, this Sunday’s concert aims to extend this collective memory through music. It is an opportunity for the public to revisit Rak Roots’ songs and honor the footprint he left on the musical landscape.
