FINANCING – The Ministry of Youth and Sports announces 4 billion Ariary in subsidies for sports federations

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is committed to transparency regarding subsidies allocated to sports federations. During a coordination meeting held at the Barea Mahamasina Stadium on Wednesday, Alain Rasambany’s team announced that they had drawn 4 billion Ariary from their budget to provide financial support to these federations.

According to the Ambohijatovo-based department, this financial aid is provided by the government to assist federations in participating in international and global competitions. Several organizations, including the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF), the Malagasy Basketball Federation (FMBB), as well as the wrestling, rugby, judo, handball, and pétanque federations, have benefited from these funds.

Meanwhile, other federations have reported that they have not received any funding from the ministry. The technical team of the Ministry of Youth and Sports stated that a total of 23 out of 30 applications have been approved, while seven others are still being processed.

In addition to transparency regarding subsidies, this quarterly meeting allowed the ministry and the federations to review achievements and remaining challenges, including the law governing sports and the preparation of the 2027 state budget aimed at improving infrastructure and supporting Malagasy athletes. Preparations for major international events were also discussed, such as the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, the 2027 Indian Ocean Island Games, the Francophonie Games, and the African Games.
