Joey Aresoa is among the 54 artists selected for the 16th Dakar Biennale of Contemporary African Art. She will represent Madagascar from November 19 to December 19, 2026.
A new international milestone opens for multidisciplinary artist Joey Aresoa. Selected to participate in the 16th edition of the Dakar Biennale, she will present ‘Graines d’Outre-Terres’ (Seeds of Overseas Lands), a work that explores fragility, repair, and rebirth. The theme of this edition is (anti)fragility.
‘The joy, the honor, and the privilege to step on the soil that will bring together all these expressions… and to see my voice there. To be part of it! The Dakar Biennale!’, she shared on her page.
With ‘Graines d’Outre-Terres’, Joey Aresoa imagines a collection of over 200 ceramic seeds, bearing names that are both scientific and poetic. These forms, which she calls ‘stem materials’, are designed as receptacles capable of hosting, transmitting, or bringing forth imaginaries, memories, and sensitive states.
Through the metaphor of the seed, the artist explores the notions of transmission and transformation. She also questions the possibility of a rebirth arising from fragility.
This event will offer Joey Aresoa the opportunity to showcase her artistic universe on a major stage of contemporary African art.
