Tensions are rising between former Barea head coach Romuald Rakotondrabe and the Malagasy Football Federation (FMF) as the dispute over unpaid salaries continues.
The situation has taken a new turn. “Who is behind this leak? Who has an interest in publishing such confidential files? It is very risky for me and my family,” questioned the former Barea coach, Romuald Félix Rakotondrabe, when reached by phone. The four-page service contract of Coach Rôrô has been circulating on social media since Monday.
The first page features the FMF logo on the top left and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MJS) logo on the right. This tripartite contract was signed by the then-acting minister, Valery Ramonjavelo, the FMF, and the coach. It was concluded for a duration of 36 months, from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2026, detailing the obligations of all three parties.
Article 6, regarding fixed remuneration, specifies: “In remuneration for his mission, the FMF and the MJS agree that the head coach shall receive net fees of 20 million ariary per month throughout the duration of this agreement, distributed as follows: 8 million ariary borne by the FMF and 12 million by the MJS.”
Variable remuneration includes an attendance bonus and a match bonus for each national team gathering. Qualification bonuses were set at “15,000 euros for AFCON 2025, 7,500 euros for CHAN, and 25,000 euros for the World Cup.” Regarding benefits in kind, “the coach receives housing and transport allowances of 4 million ariary… and four round-trip tickets to Paris and Reunion Island in economy class… to allow him to scout or evaluate players abroad.”
The origin of the leak remains to be determined. The coach held one copy of the contract, the FMF held two, while the MJS and FIFA each held one.
For his part, Coach Rôrô published a statement yesterday responding to the Federation: “The CHAN final allowed the Federation to collect a bonus of 1.2 million USD. The salaries owed to me from November 2024 to October 2026 total approximately 120,000 USD, barely 10% of the bonus collected by the Federation, which has had the means to pay me in full for months.”
The technician also stated: “I harbor no resentment regarding the Federation’s decision to choose a foreign coach to lead the national teams, even though he costs five times more than I do.”
This is not the first time such confidential documents have been made public. The contract of the current coach, Corentin Martins, also circulated on social media while it was still being finalized.
