A man suspected of killing a merchant and wounding two others at the Anosibe market last week was arrested on Monday in Betroka. Police officers from the Anosy Criminal Investigation Brigade are continuing their investigation to confirm if he is indeed the perpetrator of this armed attack and to identify any potential accomplices.
The incident occurred on October 14. A merchant who had come to the Anosibe market to stock up on supplies was targeted. Struck in the head, he died instantly.
The assailant made off with approximately eight million ariary belonging to the victim before wounding two other people with gunfire during his escape.
A surveillance camera at the market recorded his flight as well as the shots he continued to fire. His face was also visible in the footage, although not very clearly. The police used this recording to guide their search.
The intelligence gathered subsequently led investigators to the trail of a suspect who had reportedly fled to the south of the island. Cooperation with the police in Betroka led to his arrest.
