MOTHER TONGUE – Ministry of Communication develops a reference tool

Presented yesterday during the closing ceremony of the Month of the Malagasy Language at the General Ramarolahy Barracks in Betongolo, this project aims to harmonize the writing and usage of the Malagasy language.

A new reference tool for the Malagasy language is currently in development. On the occasion of the closing of the Month of the Malagasy Language, held yesterday at the General Ramarolahy Barracks in Betongolo, the Ministry of Communication and Culture announced the creation of a manual designed to unify the rules of writing and the usage of Malagasy.

This project is one of the main initiatives undertaken by the ministry. Developed in collaboration with professors, researchers, and university laboratories, the work will consolidate spelling rules, writing standards, reference vocabulary, and the main usage guidelines for the Malagasy language into a single volume. It will be made available to government administrations, educational institutions, students, and all language users.

The objective is to harmonize the use of Malagasy in administrative documents, official records, and the education system, while facilitating its learning and daily usage.

The ministry also announced the gradual launch of training programs for public administration officials to further promote the use of the Malagasy language in state services. The National Gendarmerie will be the first institution involved, given its role in proximity to the population across the country.

This announcement marks a new milestone in the policy to promote the national language, following a month of celebrations punctuated by awareness campaigns, cultural activities, and training sessions organized throughout the country.
