CONCERT – Rolf opens a new chapter in his career

Rolf is embarking on a new chapter of his career with a celebration that will continue until 2027, blending memories, new compositions, and artistic creations.

With 35 years of music, memories, trials, and an undiminished desire to create, Rolf launches his career celebration on October 17 at Ivokolo, Analakely, with an inaugural concert designed in collaboration with Zara Studios. This series of events will run until 2027 and aims to offer the public much more than a simple show.

After being active in the music scene from 1992 to 2006 before stepping back, Rolf returns today with a different approach. “I am making Art, not consumer goods or business,” he emphasizes.

Twenty years after his hiatus, the artist returns with new songs while revisiting the memories of several generations through “Sambatra,” which is being presented in a new version with a music video expected soon.

Rolf is preparing a show defined by emotion, nostalgia, discovery, and surprises. “The audience will not just see an artist singing; they will live their own story and experience something intense and internal,” he explains.

To support this vision, Rolf has chosen to collaborate with the artistic world of Yasmine Fidimalala, whose works will serve as stage decor and illustrations. A large 2.70-meter by 2.50-meter canvas is currently being prepared as a backdrop, surrounded by other paintings.

The themes proposed by Rolf echo those already explored by the visual artist in her work: Tanindrazana (Homeland), Fitiavana (Love), Fanantenana (Hope), Malahelo (Grief), Fitiavan-janaka (Parental Love), and Taranaka (Descendants). “Rolf gave me themes to inspire me and express them in my own way. These are themes I usually express in my paintings,” Yasmine explains.

This collaboration also has a personal dimension. In 2009, while hospitalized in Bordeaux for her second open-heart surgery, Yasmine listened to Rolf’s songs, which helped her through that difficult period. Their virtual meeting on Facebook turned into a true friendship after her return to Madagascar in 2011. In 2014, Rolf had already invited her to participate in the decoration of one of his concerts with Voots Congrégation.

Today, Yasmine says she is honored to be associated with this celebration. “I admire him as the authentic artist that he is,” she confides, advocating for an approach based on authenticity and the promotion of culture. She might also join him on stage to share the story of their meeting and present her artistic process, although details remain to be defined.

Through this collaboration, Rolf and Yasmine wish to create a dialogue between music and visual arts, centered on life journeys marked by joys, sorrows, trials, and hope. A celebration that will begin at Ivokolo and continue until 2027.
